Image formats explained

  • JPG (JPEG): the universal photo format. Small files, no transparency.
  • PNG: lossless, supports transparency. Best for logos, icons, screenshots and text.
  • WebP: Google's modern format. Smaller than JPG and PNG, supports transparency, works in every current browser.
  • SVG: vector graphics that scale to any size. Convert to PNG when an app needs a regular image.
  • HEIC: the iPhone photo format. See our dedicated HEIC to JPG converter.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert PNG to JPG?

Add your PNG files, choose JPG, and download. Transparent areas become white by default; pick another colour if you prefer.

How do I convert WebP to JPG or PNG?

Add the WebP images and choose JPG or PNG. This is handy when an app or website won't accept WebP files saved from the web.

How do I convert SVG to PNG?

Add your SVG, choose PNG and select the width you need (for example 1024 or 2048 px). The height follows the SVG's proportions, and transparent areas stay transparent.

Which format should I use?

JPG for photos that need to work everywhere, PNG for graphics, screenshots and anything with transparency, and WebP for the smallest files on modern websites.

Does converting reduce quality?

Converting to PNG is lossless. JPG and WebP use the quality setting; 90% or higher looks identical to the original for almost all images.

Can I convert animated GIFs?

Only the first frame is converted to a still image. Animated output is not supported yet.
