Drop in your photos or screenshots and get smaller files in seconds. Pick a quality level, or set a target size such as 100 KB for an online form. Images are compressed on your device and never uploaded.
Private by design: everything happens in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
How to compress an image
- Drop your images onto the box, click it to choose files, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.
- Choose Quality for the best balance, or Target file size to get under a limit like 100 KB.
- Optionally change the output format or set a maximum width. Results update automatically.
- Download each image, or click Download all as ZIP.
Features
Compress to an exact size
Need a photo under 20 KB, 50 KB or 100 KB for an application form? Set the target and we find the best quality that fits.
Smart PNG compression
PNGs are reduced to an optimised colour palette, which often cuts their size by 60–80% with no visible change.
Batch processing
Compress dozens of photos at once and download them together as a ZIP.
Removes location data
Compressed images are re-encoded without EXIF metadata such as GPS location and camera details.
Why compress images?
Large images slow down websites, fill up email attachments and get rejected by upload forms. A typical phone photo is 3–5 MB, but a version that looks the same on screen can be 200–500 KB. Compressing makes pages load faster, which also helps them rank better in Google.
Recommended settings
- Website images: WebP, quality 70–80, maximum width 1920 px.
- Email and messaging: JPG, quality 75, maximum width 1280 px.
- Online application forms: Target file size set to the form's limit (often 20 KB, 50 KB, 100 KB or 200 KB).
- Screenshots and graphics: PNG at quality 80+ keeps text sharp while still reducing size.
Need specific dimensions too? Use the image resizer. Have iPhone photos? Convert them withHEIC to JPG first, or simply add them here.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compress an image to 100 KB (or 50 KB, 20 KB)?
Choose "Target file size", pick 100 KB (or type any size), and add your image. We lower the quality step by step, and if that is not enough we reduce the dimensions slightly, until the file fits.
Will compressing reduce the quality?
At the default quality of 75, most photos look identical to the original while being 50–80% smaller. Lower settings give smaller files with more visible softening. You can compare results instantly by moving the slider.
Is it safe to compress private photos here?
Yes. Images are compressed by your browser on your own device. They are never uploaded, so we can't see them.
Which format gives the smallest files?
WebP is usually 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality and works in all modern browsers. Use JPG for maximum compatibility, for example with older software or government websites.
Why is my PNG still large?
Photos saved as PNG are hard to compress because PNG is designed for graphics. Switch the output format to JPG or WebP for photos to get much smaller files.
Is there a limit on the number or size of images?
No fixed limit. Very large images (over about 16 megapixels) are scaled to fit browser limits, which we tell you about if it happens.
