Common image sizes

  • Instagram: 1080×1080 (square), 1080×1350 (portrait), 1080×1920 (Stories and Reels).
  • YouTube: thumbnails 1280×720, channel art 2560×1440.
  • Facebook: cover photo 851×315, shared images 1200×630.
  • X (Twitter): header 1500×500, in-feed images 1600×900.
  • LinkedIn: personal banner 1584×396.
  • Website hero images: 1920 px wide is plenty for most screens.

Pixels, percent or preset?

Use pixels when a website or form asks for exact dimensions. Use percent to shrink a batch of photos of different sizes by the same amount. Use a preset when you're posting to a specific platform and want it to look right first time.

To shrink the file size as well, run the result through the image compressor.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image without losing quality?

Making an image smaller keeps it sharp, especially with quality set to 90% or higher. Making it larger than the original cannot add detail, so it will look softer. For the best result, start from the largest version you have.

How do I resize a photo for Instagram?

Choose Preset, then "Instagram post (1080×1080)" for square posts or "Instagram portrait (1080×1350)" for tall posts. "Crop to fill" trims the edges so the photo fills the frame.

What does "Keep aspect ratio" do?

It keeps the shape of your image. If you enter both a width and a height, the image is scaled to fit inside that box without stretching. Leave one field empty to have it calculated for you.

Can I resize many images at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like; the same settings are applied to all of them, and you can download everything as a ZIP.

How do I resize an image to a specific file size, like 100 KB?

Use our image compressor and choose "Target file size". It finds the best quality that fits, and reduces the dimensions slightly if needed.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Resizing happens in your browser on your own device, so your photos stay private.
